Venus fly traps and pitcher plants?

For anyone else who wondered, like I did, if we were just ignoring carnivorous plants and making a generalization by saying that plants make food and animals consume food…. I looked into it and learned that carnivorous plants still get all their energy from the sun. They consume insects in order to get nutrients (namely phosphorous and nitrogen) that the soil is lacking. This is why they mostly grow in regions with poor soil.
