Begin by asking and discussing with students: What does the previous lesson (Lesson B-25) say about your diet, i.e., what must be present in what you eat? Guide students to recognize the two basic categories:
- Building blocks: food must include the necessary building blocks for making proteins, e.g., amino acids. There must be a host of other “building blocks as well (see below).
- Energy yielding food : Food must include sufficient molecules, e.g., starches (carbohydrates) that can be oxidized to release energy and regenerate ATP for ADP + P. (see Lesson B-25)
