Some people reject vaccination by saying that they will do the natural thing of relying on “herd immunity”. Herd immunity refers to the fact that when 90% or more of the animals in a herd/people in a population are vaccinated the disease will probably not spread through the population.

It’s is a matter contagion, i.e. passing the disease from one individual to the next. If only one individual in ten is susceptible it is likely that the disease organism will die in the environment before finding the next susceptible person to infect. Therefore, to say that you rely on herd immunity means that you are relying on 90 percent of the people you come in contact with having been vaccinated.

Either that, or you are saying that you are happy to die from the disease so that you leave a “herd”/population that has a higher percentage of immunity.
