Emphasize to kids that the discovery of the molecular structure of DNA was only the beginning of a great new field of discovery — figuring out how the “code” on DNA is “read” to make certain proteins that lead the cell to be and do what it does. This research is ongoing with plenty of space for your kids to enter if they so choose.
A related new field is known as GENETIC ENGINEERING. It is the development of techniques by which the DNA of an organism can be altered in specific ways.
